The Legacy of Philly’s Games

Philly’s Games cc is a specialized Event Management Company dedicated to orchestrating high-impact sporting projects and vital Corporate Social Investment (CSI) campaigns across South Africa. Our biggest, and most profound, project is the annual Philly’s Games community tournament.

1992

The Birth of a Legend

The Philly’s Games were established with just two teams: Bakone FC and Zamalek FC. Zamalek FC made history as the very first crowned champions.

1993

Doubling the Field

The tournament grew to four teams, including Bakone FC, Zamalek FC, Mambas, and Sampdoria. Sampdoria walked away with the title.

1996

Expanding the Reach

The tournament continued its steady growth, expanding to eight participating teams for the first time.

1998

Secure Partnerships

A major milestone in commercial growth as ABI Midrand (Coca-Cola) became the first main sponsor of Philly’s Games.

1999

Political Recognition

The late CLR Bavumile Vilakazi, just three days into his term as the first Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, addressed the final. Fiasco were crowned champions.

2001

Stepping into the Stadium

A massive leap for the brand as the final was played at a stadium for the first time. Jam Alley took home the trophy.

2001 – 2003

The Triple Threat

Colombia became the first team to win Philly’s Games for three consecutive years, earning the permanent floating trophy per tournament regulations.

2004

Night Fever

Philly’s Games became the first off-season tournament to stage a final under floodlights, an event dubbed "Night Fever."

2005

Technical Growth

The brand’s professional appeal grew as Sportstake signed as the main sponsor and Mitre joined as the technical sponsor.

2006

Rising Stakes

The prize money began its rapid ascent, with G-String winning R50,000.

2007

Reaching Six Figures

For the first time, prize money reached the R100,000 mark, won by Cheese.

2008

The 32-Team Spectacle

The tournament reached a massive scale, staging a 32-team tournament for the community.

2010

Corporate Giants Join

MTN and PEPSI signed on as main sponsors. Ama BEE were crowned the champions for this iconic year.

2011

From Juniors to Giants

Amandla made history as the first team to graduate from the Philly’s Games junior ranks to win the senior title.

2012

The Debut Champs

In an incredible display of skill, Masokolara became the first team to win the tournament on their very first attempt, taking home R110,000.

2015

Record-Breaking Prizes

Rebels were crowned champions, winning R160,000—the biggest prize money in off-season tournament history at that time.

2016

The Silver Jubilee (25 Years)

A historic milestone! Philly’s Games celebrated 25 years of impact. Alex Mates became champions and won a massive R200,000.

2017

Amandla Ascends

At 26 years old, the tournament saw Amandla soar above the competition to reclaim their spot as champions.

2018

Back-to-Back Glory

The 27th edition saw Amandla defend their title successfully, being crowned champions for the second year in a row.

2019

A New Reign

While Amandla chased a "triple," G-String FC rose to the occasion to break the streak and take the 28th-anniversary title.

2020

Resilience through Change

History was made as the games were played without spectators for the first time due to global shifts. Isithembiso proved their worth as the 2020 champions.

2021

The World is Watching (30 Years)

Philly’s Games turned 30! This milestone was marked by the tournament being televised on SuperSport for the first time. AMBASSADORS FC took the title.

2022

The Year of the Underdog

In the 31st edition, One Lion shocked the fans—coming in as underdogs but leaving as champions after a roaring performance.

The Phillys Games pushed me to grow both personally and professionally. Winning the U/17 title against 32 elite teams was a highlight of my career. Thank you for creating a stage for the next generation to shine!
